Do you end your emails with ‘Best’? You’re ending your emails wrong apparently, according to Bloomberg reporter Rebecca Greenfield. Also on the list of bad sign-offs are; Yours, Warmest Regards, Sincerely, Thanks, and Cheers.
Greenfield has completed a fairly comprehensive review of the most common ways to end an email and the perceptions of each one. ‘Best’ is a horrible way to end an email says Greenfield.
This article has received a mountain of feedback so far. There are over 1000 comments on the Yahoo re-published version.
Greenfield says that the best way to end an email is to simply end it. There is no need to add a one or two word pleasantry to complete the message. I agree with this to a degree, but If you’re sending an important email, it can look rude if you just suddenly end the message. It will be interesting to see if people change the way they email after this story.
